Hood's Noob Guide to your first steps on Webanarchy

Postby Hood » Tue Jan 06, 2009 6:10 pm

listen up n00bs after i observed several new members browsing the forum without leaving a single post i decided to lend you a helping hand.
because i'm nice like that and i wan't to see the forum grow

this little guide is only for people who got past the lurker stage in that they have already a username i.e signed up to this wonderfull place we call webanarchy.

now i can understand how some of you will be intimidated by the sheer intellectual quality and the rough manners of this place and it's inhabitants.
bear in mind though even forum icons like Ciggy, Goke or Dove have been n00bs before the embarked on the long and challenging journey to become, one day, respectable forumites.

Every beginning is difficult, of course it is, so let me spill out a few hopefully usefull tips wich shall make your entrance to forum life a little bit easier.

the first steps :
it's good to keep a low profile at first, participate in many threads but don't write some long ass post intented to show off your knowledge on the subject, chance are you're wrong anyway plus it makes you look like a know it all, a label you don't want to have stamped on you too early on.

one liners are your friend, and as long as you don't say something incredibly stupid or ultra profound, webanarchists will most likely let you be at first.
don't think just because they don't reply means they don't notice you, they do, they'll sniff you, scan you, and try to put you in one of the usual categories.
once this process is completed and they think they have sussed you one or even more will engage you in a debate ( to test your debating skills) or start a fight (to see what you're made of) most likely both. expect Dove to be one of the if not the first who does so.

even if you loose,or make yourself look like an utter fucking fool don't give up and run to another forum where you can find comfort in all the fluff that's going on there, stay and show them that you can take a hit, as hard as it might was, and still stick around.
it's a sort of initiation ritual every n00b has to go through sooner or later. once you're past those initial stages of forum newish ism make yourself usefull, start threads wich benefit the forum or post interesting news items, you know just be active, go out there and show yourself !
incase your creativity or knowledge lacks in those departments just go and post some porn. that will do.

repeat this routine for the next few forumdays until you've reached the next level/rank, rock thrower, like the name suggest it's now time for you to pick a fight. if you're scared i suggest you pick on Coolfighter as he's the easiest target. even if you have a bad day or lack form you'll still kick his ass.
of course beating up coolfighter verbally won't earn you as much respect as, well any other member really, but at least you have shown that you can win a fight.

now i know the euphoric feeling of winning your first forum fight can somewhat get into your head so don't, i repeat, DON'T jump on everyone else just because you feel strong enough to take 'em all on. settle down and do the usefull routine, again.. after a few days you can pick on coolfighter again just to show that your first win wasn't luck or if you feel stronger than that go to the next level and pick on a woman. we have a variety of females round here so you even have some sort of selection. once you've beaten a woman in a fair forum battle you really have shown that you have what it takes to become a fully respected Webanarchist !

hope this was helpfull to some of you lurking soon to be n00bs outthere :015_wi:

All men can see these tactics whereby I conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which victory is evolved.

For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

Hence that general is skillful in attack whose opponent does not know what to defend; and he is skillful in defense whose opponent does not know what to attack.

Two still-no0bs and a bean.

This post could possibly lead them into further no0bdom if they are not properly managed.

Just look at my pupil Darkovic. So much promise, wasted.

A noob is a lovely thing to waste. :004_tu:

I will begin my master class for n0obs later this week but I'm currently awaiting further instruction from third wave.

Til then, be patient. Think of this as the last bender before starting rehab. Frolic and let your inner n00b child play in the swingset, for tomorrow, school begins.
